The film is based on Square-Enix's record-breaking CG animation sequel to the 1997 PlayStation game "Final Fantasy VII." Two years after the final battle against Sephiroth, the survivors of the city, Midgar have begun to build a new city. However, people begin to die of a strange new disease they call "Geostigma" that is suddenly proliferating. Amidst this confusion, Cloud is attacked by three men who believe that he has taken away from them something of grave importance. Reluctantly, and with significant amount of self-doubt at first, Cloud finally decides to stand up to the enemy. . .
