Just released on Feb. 27, Bakumatsu Rock, a high-profile PSP game targeted at female audiences, is already being adapted into an anime. The television anime adaptation set to air in July 2014 was announced on March 10.

With animation being handled by Studio Deen and Itsurō Kawasaki from Sengoku Basara directing, it’s expected to be very entertaining. Also involved are Mitsutaka Hirota for series composition, Akiharu Ishī for character design, and Tsutomu Nishikura for art direction.

The cast of the game version will reprise their important roles. Kishō Taniyama will play Ryōma Sakamoto, Tatsuhisa Suzuki will play Shinsaku Takasugi, Shōtarō Morikubo will play Kogorō Katsura, Toshiyuki Morikawa will play Toshizō Hijikata, and Kenshō Ono will play Sōji Okita.

Bakumatsu Rock is a bakumatsu revolution adventure game where you fight through song, and it’s catching steam.

It takes place in the Song of Peaceful era. The Tokugawa shogunate’s “Heaven’s Song” has captivated the public of the peaceful era. Singing “Heaven’s Song” is Top Idol Shinsengumi.

Their voices pierce the hearts of village maidens and their live performances are earth-shattering.

The shogunate seizes those who sing anything else and is trying to obtain complete control through the peace created by the Idol’s power, “Heaven’s Song.” However, there are people who don’t agree with this control. Ryōma Sakamoto, a man who loves freedom and rock, is one such person. Ryōma rises up with one guitar and a rock soul. The “rocker” technique that will change the course of history goes up against the Shinsengumi, who have stolen the hearts of the people. Will their passion be able to release their souls?

The title will also have a stage event at AnimeJapan 2014, being held at Tokyo Big Sight. The stage event will begin at 1:00 p.m. on March 23. Kishō Taniyama, Shōtarō Morikubo, and Toshiyuki Morikawa will appear. Additionally, downloadable content was made available beginning on March 11. There is a variety of different content, including some celebrating the anime adaptation. You can enjoy the bonus story Toshizō Hijikata Kaikoroku and the skits Anime Adaptation in the Works!, DLC Toshizō Hijikata Kaikoroku Released! and Senbatsu Tōgarashi Nakatsugi Tōgarashi Osae Tōgarashi.
